現田　茂夫　Shigeo Genda (Conductor)

東京生まれ。東京音楽大学指揮科で汐澤安彦、三石精一両氏に師事。その後東京芸術大学で佐藤功太郎、遠藤雅古両氏に師事。1985年安宅賞受賞。　

86年、二期会オペラ「ヘンゼルとグレーテル」でオペラ・デビュー後、「こうもり」等、二期会オペラで活躍する一方、オーケストラコンサートでも実績を積む。　

87年、新星日本交響楽団指揮者に就任。

88年、来日中のドレスデン・フィルに客演したのをはじめとして、国内外を問わず主要オーケストラを指揮し、好評を得ている。　
90年、新星日響とヨーロツパ演奏旅行。同年、ウィーン国立歌劇場に国費留学。

91年スロヴァキア・フィルに客演。

92年、プラハ国立歌劇場日本公演の指揮者として客演。同年、プラハ交響楽団の定期公演に初登場し、翌年、“プラハの春”での“佐藤しのぶリサイタル”は、センセーショナルにヨーロツパで放送された。チェコを始めとして、イタリア、ドイツ等での客演も多い。　

96年より13年間神奈川フィルハーモニー管弦楽団を指導し飛躍的に躍進させ、その功績も称えられ2009年4月より名誉指揮者の称号を得る。他の主要オーケストとも数多く共演し好評を得ている。また、世界的チェリスト故ムスティスラフ・ロストロポーヴィチと03年12月及び04年10月皇后陛下の古希祝賀コンサートで共演し好評を博した。　

オペラ指揮者としても経験豊かで、関西二期会で94年“ラインの黄金”/97年“ワルキューレ”/98年“ナクソス島のアリアドネ”/02年“天守物語”/08年“セビリアの理髪師”、東京二期会で95年“チャルダッシュの女王”/96年“フイガロの結婚”/“魔笛”、文化庁オペラ研修所で96年“ドン・ジョバンニ”、 “佐藤しのぶドラマチック・リサイタル”（全国ツアー）、2001年夏には“夕鶴”のタジキスタン/ウズベキスタン/東京公演、04年秋にはブラチスラヴァでスロヴァキア国立歌劇場の“椿姫”を指揮し、さらに10月同日本公演でも好評を博した。02年から錦織健プロデュースオペラの音楽監督も努め、“コシ･ファン･トゥッテ、”04年“セビリアの理髪師”、06年“ドン･ジョヴァンニ”、09年“愛の妙薬” 全国公演。05、08年には栗山民也演出“夕鶴”の全国公演を行っている。

また、アントニオ･ペドロッティ国際指揮者コンクール(イタリア/トレント)の審査員として毎回招待されている。2000年4月から3年間、ＮＨＫの「ＦＭシンフォニー・コンサート」のパーソナリティを務めるなど、バラエティにとんだ活動を行なっている。

Shigeo Genda (Conductor)

Born in Tokyo, Mr. Shigeo Genda began studying the cello with Katsuo Shimizu. He majored in conducting at the Tokyo Music College, studying under Yasuhiko Shiozawa and Sei-ichi Mitsuishi and, at the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music, under Kohtaro Satoh. In 1985, he was the recipient of Ataka Prize.

In 1986 he made opera debut conducting Hendel und Gretel with Nikikai Opera Foundation and continued to work with the company conducting Die Fledermaus and others while chalking up a track record in orchestral concerts.

In 1987 Genda was appointed conductor of the Japan Shinsei Symphony Orchestra. In 1988 he conducted the Dresdner Philharmonie in Japan as guest and major orchestras in Japan and overseas acquiring a good reputation.

He toured to Europe with the Japan Shinsei Symphony Orchestra in 1990, and studied at the Wiener Staatsoper at the government’s expense in the same year. In 1991 he conducted Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra. In 1992 he worked with the Prague National Opera as guest conductor on the company’s Japan tour. He made his debut at the subscription concert of the Prague Symphony Orchestra in the year. The next year’s “Shinobu Sato Recital” at the Prague Spring International Music Festival was broadcast in Europe with sensation. He often guests in Czech, Italy, Germany and others.

From 1996 he led the Kanagawa Philharmonic Orchestra for 13 years making the orchestra take a great leap forward, and received the title of honorary conductor in April 2009 as recognition for his contribution to the orchestra. He has also conducted many other major orchestras with favorable receipts. Genda performed with the worldwide cellist Mustislav Rostropovich in December 2003, and in October 2004 at the concert to celebrate the empress’s 70th birthday.

Genda’s career as opera conductor includes Das Rheingold (1994), Die Walkure (1997), Ariadne auf Naxos (1998), The Tale of Himeji Castle (2002), Il Barbiere di Siviglia (2008) with Kansai Nikikai; Die Csárdásfürstin (1996), Le Nozze di Figaro (1996), Die Zauberflöte (1996) with Tokyo Nikikai; Don Giovanni (1996) with Opera Training Course of Agency of Cultural Affairs; Japan tour of Shinobu Sato’s “Dramatic Recital”; Yuzuru in Tadzhikistan, Uzbekistan, and Tokyo (2001); and La Traviata with the Slovak National Opera in Blatislava in 2004 as well as on their Japan tour in October. Since 2002, as Music director of the opera project produced by Ken Nishikiori, Genda has conducted Cosi fan tutte (2004), Il Barbiere di Siviglia (2004), Don Giovanni (2006), and L’elisir d’amore on Japan tour (2009). He also conducted Yuzuru of Tamiya Kuriyama’s production all over Japan in 2005 and 2008.

Genda is regularly invited to be a judge at the Antonio Pedrotti International conducting competition in Trento, Italy. He was a host of the NHK’s radio program “FM Symphony Concert” for 3 years from April 2000.
